Widely considered to be an industry leader in the training of Make-up, Fashion and Esthetics, the Blanche Macdonald Centre is a private college based in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada (also known as Hollywood North). The Centre is one of the largest makeup schools in Canada, occupying close to 30,000 square feet, over several floors, the college is located in an award winning heritage mall - City Square. Over 1000 students attend the college every year. The student population is a diverse mix of local and international students.
In the Make-up department, Blanche Macdonald Makeup faculty and graduates have garnered international recognition for their nominations and awards for the Emmys and Geminis and have extensive makeup credits in film, television, commercials, videos, theatre and fashion. Their credits include the makeup for the Golden Globes, the Academy Awards, the Cannes film festival, features such as Shall We Dance, I Robot, Saved, The Chronicles of Riddick, Single White Chicks, X-Men 2, Hellboy, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, A Knight's Tale, Quills, and Harry Potter, fashion editorials for Elle, W and In Style and the fashion collections of Vivienne Westwood, Zac Posen, Alexander McQueen, Luca Luca, and Valentino.
Blanche Macdonald Estheticians/Spa therapists have endless career opportunities on a local, national and international level. Working at some of the world's most prestigious spas, salons, hotels and resorts, graduates can provide a holistic approach incorporating deep pore facials and body care with water therapies, relaxation massages, and aromatherapy or apply the latest anti-ageing treatments with the latest laser technology, micro-dermabrasion machines and photo rejuvenation equipment.
Working well beyond the tried and true manicures and pedicures, graduates of the Professional Nail Technician program are exposed to a vast curriculum. Treatments include sculptured nails - gel and acrylic applications, fills and repairs, working with ultra violet light, hot oil treatments, paraffin dips, aromatherapy hand and foot massage, natural nail scrubs, 3 D nail art etc. Business studies include entrepreneurship courses, sourcing out products and suppliers and how to start you own nail bar.
The Fashion division of the college is comprised of Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising. Creative individuals who have a flair for the tactile, flourish in dynamic environments with endless deadlines and have a voracious appetite for textiles, fabrics, patternmaking, illustration, construction and fashion collections, will do well in Fashion Design. Others who wish to apply their business sense in a retail, wholesaling or manufacturing environment, will be challenged by the buying, advertising and entrepreneurship classes in Fashion Merchandising. Those who are creative but don't see themselves in design, can apply their artistic interests in Fashion Merchandising to visual merchandising, fashion styling, store concepts or fashion show production.
