Critics agree. Vancouver is one of the most beautiful - and livable - cities in the world.

Known as the Jewel of the Pacific Rim, Vancouver is a vivid and vibrant city. A multicultural hub with international sophistication, rich cultural resources and breathtaking scenery, Vancouver is safe and friendly. Here, cultures and cuisines exchange ideas and influences against a spectacular backdrop of snow-capped mountains, rainforests and the Pacific Ocean.

Vancouver's temperate climate, with mild winters unlike the rest of Canada, ensures its streets and cafes are always bustling. Vancouver is a city brimming with cultural events, world class shopping, gourmet restaurants with an endless array of international cuisines, and a vibrant nightlife.

The cosmopolitan city centre, home to Blanche Macdonald's three campuses, is perfect for exploring on foot or by bike. With miles of pristine public walkways, beautiful beaches that hug the coastline, and numerous bike paths and hiking trails, Vancouver's outdoor activities are endless. The international ski resort of Whistler is easily reachable and the provincial capital Victoria, with its touches of British Colonial Architecture, is a simple ferry ride away.

Hundreds of movie and television productions have been filmed in and around Vancouver. The city has earned its reputation as Hollywood North, with local film production revenues exceeding over a billion dollars annually. After even a brief visit to Vancouver, you'll understand why the entertainment industry can't stay away.

Vancouver is a wonderful place to visit. It's an even better place to live.

What is Blanche Macdonald's definition of an international student?

What programs does the Blanche Macdonald Centre offer?

What are the admission requirements?

To meet our admission requirements, all applicants must:

  • Have successfully completed High School or an acceptable equivalent, or be at least 19 years of age.
  • Submit a completed Application form to the school.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude for and strong interest in their chosen subject area.
  • Attend a personal interview with an Admissions Director. For applicants who live out of town or out of the country, these Admission interviews can be conducted over the phone.

What is the difference between the International Diploma Programs and Advanced studies?

Our international programs are three to six months in length and designed for students with basic “English conversation skills”. Most of the work in the program is practical. Students will strengthen their English language skills while training for careers in the makeup, fashion, hair and beauty industries.

In our advanced 12 month programs, students experience a combination of written and practical training. Classroom sessions are intensive and students must be comfortable completing written tests and assignments in addition to extensive practical work.

Are there extra curricular activities for international students?

International students are encouraged to participate in local industry events such as fashion shows and theatre productions during the evenings and on weekends. For those interested students, a practicum can be arranged.

Is the college accessible by transit?

Yes! Both the Uptown and Downtown campuses are located on major bus and SkyTrain routes. Vancouver has an excellent transit system. International students will feel comfortable traveling by bus, skytrain or seabus to the campus each day. Click here for more information on transportation to the Blanche Macdonald Centre.

Are there any homestays or accommodation for international students?

Our Program Associates will be happy to assist International students in finding accommodations during their stay in Vancouver. The Blanche Macdonald Centre has a relationship with several Homestay programs and can refer international students to find accommodation services that suit their needs. International students can be matched with one another or with Canadian students who are also seeking accommodations. Two or more students will often rent an apartment together for the duration of their programs. There are also other options available to international students, such as renting a furnished or unfurnished suite.

What is the percentage of international students and nationality breakdown?

Blanche Macdonald attracts students from every continent. Students travel from Mexico, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, UK and the USA to experience our Makeup, Fashion, Esthetics and Hair School Programs. Each class has a mix of students from around the world.
