From Blanche Macdonald Grad to Medi-Spa Owner: How Lauryn Leung is Redefining the Industry

From Blanche Macdonald Grad to Medi-Spa Owner: How Lauryn Leung is Redefining the Industry

On Vancouver’s vibrant Fraser Street, medical esthetician and entrepreneur Lauryn Leung is building the next chapter of Clear Complexions Co. What started as a home-based business has grown into a full-service clinic with an expanded treatment menu, big plans for the future, and recognition on BC Business’s 30 Under 30 list (2026).

It’s a remarkable evolution from the young entrepreneur who once wondered whether her health would allow her to work a traditional nine-to-five. After being diagnosed with endometriosis, Lauryn pivoted her path and enrolled in the Global / Medical Esthetics Program.

“When I started the program, I knew, this is for me,” says Lauryn. “The instructors were all really great and super supportive. You learn how to figure out your flow. The power of touch was a big takeaway from the program.”

“My time at Blanche Macdonald gave me a strong foundation entering the aesthetics industry, and now, as a business owner and employer, I’ve had the opportunity to see that same foundation in the graduates we hire.”

That education laid a lasting foundation, and today, as a business owner, Lauryn regularly turns to her alma mater when expanding her team.

“My time at Blanche Macdonald gave me a strong foundation entering the aesthetics industry, and now, as a business owner and employer, I’ve had the opportunity to see that same foundation in the graduates we hire,” Lauryn shares. “I look for estheticians who are professional, eager to learn, and confident in their fundamentals, and I’ve consistently found Blanche graduates come in with a solid base.”

When we last checked in with Lauryn, she was laying the foundations of her business. Now, she’s entering an entirely new phase: a bigger space, bigger ambitions and recognition as an entrepreneur to watch.

Finding the Right Space

In October 2025, Lauryn decided to leave her original commercial clinic space and find a neighbourhood that could better support her growing business and high-end, specialized services.

The search led her to a raw, shell-condition unit on Fraser Street that required a $150,000 renovation. After walking away from other commercial opportunities, Lauryn trusted her instincts and went all in.

Because of her age and lack of traditional commercial assets, she was denied three times from different banks for loans before getting approved. Rather than backing down, she kept looking.

“I ended up finding this lady at a different bank and she was my saving grace,” Lauryn recalls. “She believed in my business. Thankfully she saw my potential and she gave me those funds within a week.”

Lauryn also took an unconventional approach to deciding whether the neighbourhood was right for Clear Complexions Co. She spent time in nearby coffee shops and walked the area, observing the people who lived and spent time there.

“If I find a place that is an actual option, I sit in a coffee shop really close by for a couple hours to see the type of people coming in to see if I’m going to vibe with them, to see if it is the right demographic that I’m looking for. I would also walk my dog in that area all the time just to see people.”

Her research revealed a mix of young families, “DINKS” (Dual Income No Kids) and Gen X residents invested in self-care.

“The bakery next door is not cheap. So if people can afford an $8 coffee, they can probably afford our services. I think it was an instinct I had.”

After four months of construction, Clear Complexions Co opened its new doors in November 2025.

“I think a lot of people see this and they just think it happens overnight. But it's a lot of strategic thinking and a lot of planning and a lot of investing...And it's a lot of education that I put myself through to get to this point, too.”

Skin, Laser and Lymphatic

The new clinic reflects how much Lauryn’s vision has evolved. Clear Complexions Co combines medical aesthetics in Vancouver with holistic treatments around what she calls “skin, laser, lymphatic.”

With roughly 80% of her clientele experiencing skin inflammation, Lauryn has continued to invest in advanced technology, including Glacial Skin and Aerolase. The clinic also offers treatments such as Brazilian lymphatic massage and TMJ Buccal Massage.

“Our Aerolase has been super busy in this clinic,” Lauryn says. “We’re having to put this machine back and forth between rooms, which is great!”

The business has grown beyond a traditional esthetics and spa model, too. By bringing a Registered Massage Therapist, Acupuncturist and Naturopathic Doctor onto her team, Lauryn has expanded the clinic’s services while giving clients access to treatments that may be eligible for extended health coverage.

For Lauryn, the goal is to create a more holistic approach to skin and wellness while building a business that can grow beyond her own hands.

Building a Team

That growth has meant stepping into a new role. Once focused primarily on treating clients as a medical esthetician, Lauryn now spends more of her time on strategy, operations, hiring and developing her team.

Her growing Vancouver esthetics team includes six estheticians, including Blanche Grads Alicia and Nancy (who is also the manager of Clear Complexions Co), two RMTs, an acupuncturist, a scalp specialist and an upcoming naturopathic doctor.

Her core team has stayed with her since Day 1, something Lauryn considers one of her greatest accomplishments.

“That’s something I’m probably the most proud of,” Lauryn shares. “I actually have this laser sales rep… he sees clinics on the daily. And he said to me that we have the least turnover rate for employees. And to me, that says a lot of how I care for my team. I think it also helps that I’m an esthetician by trade, so I really feel like I understand the girls when they’re feeling burnt out or they’re feeling like they need a certain type of push. You can train skill, but you can’t train someone to be a good person and to really care. And to me, that matters most. So, I really just hire good people so that we have good vibes at work.”

Lauryn also works to give her team autonomy rather than micromanaging them.

“I work a ton, but it’s my passion, so I don’t feel burnt out. But there are definitely times where the girls tell me, ‘You need to leave, you need to go home.’… For those first six months when it was just our original team, I was able to really take a break and recover from the construction side of things because I think it almost killed me, to be honest. I was able to recoup and recover and now I have this really good mindset.”

Lauryn Leung, BC Business 30 under 30

Amid the intensity of the clinic expansion came another milestone. In 2026, Lauryn was named to the BC Business 30 Under 30, recognizing her as one of the province’s young entrepreneurs to watch.

The timing made the recognition particularly meaningful.

“I remember so many things were going wrong and I was so stressed and I was driving and I got the email that I’d been selected and I just started crying. I had to pull over. It was a really cool moment.”

For someone who started Clear Complexions Co from home, the recognition is another marker of just how far the business has come.

The Next Phase: CCC Academy

Lauryn’s ambitions now extend beyond Clear Complexions Co’s treatment rooms.

Having stepped away from daily treatments to focus more heavily on the corporate side of the business, she is preparing for her next venture: CCC Academy.

Slated for next year, the academy will offer beginner, intermediate and advanced education for complete beginners, recent graduates and clinic owners looking to refine their techniques or develop their business knowledge.

It will also create new opportunities for career progression within Lauryn’s existing team.

“One of my team members has expressed to me that she really loves teaching, and I’m like, ‘Great, come teach with me, cuz I can’t do it by myself.’ So, I really like having the team start from here: part-time, full-time, to manager, to teacher. It makes them feel like they’re growing with the company as well. And I would rather do that than hire externally.”

Her longer-term goal is full accreditation to offer advanced diplomas in medical aesthetics.

“We’re trying to kind of make that aesthetic space different from what traditional schools have taught us,” she says. “So, that’s the goal for next year is to launch.”

“It makes them feel like they’re growing with the company as well.”

Success Doesn’t Happen Overnight

For current Blanche Medical Esthetics students watching Lauryn’s trajectory, her success can look deceptively fast. She wants them to know that there is a lot happening behind the scenes.

“I think a lot of people see this and they just think it happens overnight. But it’s a lot of strategic thinking and a lot of planning and a lot of investing. I know for a fact I’m going to be in debt for the next 5 years, but it’s just a matter of cash flow and getting clients in—and it’s good debt. That’s how I see it. But I think you have to… big risk, big reward sort of thing. So that’s kind of how I want people to see in this story, too… And it’s a lot of education that I put myself through to get to this point, too.”

Looking ahead, Lauryn’s 10-year vision includes stepping further into an ownership role and potentially expanding to multiple locations that incorporate women’s health and premium extended-health services.

For those hoping to follow a similar path, her advice remains simple.

“It’s like my dad always says: it’s not luck. It’s planning.”

Lauryn is a graduate of Blanche Macdonald’s Global / Medical Esthetician Program, where she built the foundation that became the starting point for Clear Complexions Co. From student to entrepreneur, Lauryn’s story is proof that where you start doesn’t have to define where you end up.
