Makeup Artist School Career Services

Makeup: Career Services

The Blanche Macdonald Centre is committed to assisting our students during the school-to-work transition. The Makeup Diploma Program includes a Resumé Preparation and Career Search Skills component in which students learn how to market themselves as Makeup Artists. They learn the essential art of networking and how to write and maintain a specialized CV (curriculum vitae) that will present their skills and experience to the best advantage.

A career in Makeup Artistry happens over time and the most successful artists are those who continually invest in upgrading their skills, diligently expand and diversify their portfolios and cultivate an ongoing support network to help connect them with opportunities available in their field. We recognize this dynamic at the Blanche Macdonald Centre, which is why we took the initiative in creating the Career Services department. Headed up by an extraordinary team of Human Resource professionals, the students and graduates are given ongoing resources and support to assist them in launching careers in their chosen field.

Your industry work experience begins as a student. With endless postings of volunteer or paid work assignments, our Career Services department fields hundreds of calls for student makeup artists for student films, theatre productions, dance companies, in-store promotions, fashion shows, and special events.

As a graduate, you will receive continual support on how to earn credits and how to apply for permitee status for the film unions (IATSE local 891 and ACFC). You will learn what it's like to work on independent productions, what rates to command for commercials or fashion shows, and which product suppliers are reputable and reliable. Through the tireless efforts of our Makeup Director, Makeup Department Head, Makeup Faculty, and Career Coordinator, the Blanche Macdonald Centre is completely immersed and connected to all aspects of the Makeup industry. There is immense effort placed in promoting our graduates to the best companies and career opportunities and in helping you succeed in your chosen career.
